" Energrow soybean press which yields both soybean oil (which is sold as a feed additive) and extruded soybean meal, which meets the protein requirements for the dairy herd and veal calves."

The tour continued to Caledon Jerseys, owned by Bruce and Sonya McKeown and family at Woodville. This farm also began in 1986 and is a multi-faceted operation. In addition to milking 40 Jerseys, the McKeown family also market about 300 calves as red veal per year. These calves are raised in a separate Cover-all barn. They also do some cash cropping, growing corn, soybeans, wheat and oats. Finally, the McKeowns have recently installed an Energrow soybean press which yields both soybean oil (which is sold as a feed additive) and extruded soybean meal, which meets the protein requirements for the dairy herd and veal calves. The current BCA for the herd is 219-185-213 with classifications of 5 EX 18 VG 18 GP and 3 G. The herd is generally younger at the moment with several promising young cows by Semex young sires, including Hautpre Francis, La Presentation Jasper and Top Gene Gold Action.
